The Agios Lavrentios Brass Band was born in the village of Agios Lavrentios on Mount Pilion in greece some ten years ago. Every summer, musicians from around the world meet for the now legendary “music village” weeks of concerts and workshops. The musicians in the brass band, the world’s only brass band without any actual brass in it, come from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Greece, Portugal, Germany, and Italy. Saxophones of all shapes and sizes form the core of the band and the all-Greek rhythm section provides the balkan and new orleans rhythms. The band prides itself on having marched all over the mountain of Pilion and even gifted the neighboring villages with their spontaneous concerts. There physical and spiritual home though is the “platea” of Agios Lavrentios, often dubbed the pearl of Pilion. It is here that the band has provided the soundtrack for countless legendary parties all through the wild summer nights. There sound and spirit were forged on the platea, now they are ready to take it out to the world…
